Clare Valley's wine, specifically the Rieslings and Cabernet Sauvugnons, have been rated by international wine judges as among the world's best. The valley's wine have made it to the wine lists of five-star restaurants around the world and to the First Class compartments of Qantas aircraft.

Winery tradition in Clare Valley began in 1851 when the Jesuits priests first planted grapes in this valley. The Jesuits continue to this day to make sacramental wine at Sevenhill Cellars.

The valley's vineyards are nestled alongside the wild Australian bush land. The first-rate quality of Clare Valley wine is attributed to the continental climate with long hot days and cooling nights in summer-- giving wine excellent flavors.

To date, there are 41 wineries and 36 cellar doors in Clare Valley. Many of the valley's wineries are small-scale boutique producers. Cellar doors are operated out of stone cottages, sheds, modern structures and heritage buildings.
