Clare Valley Trails

Riesling Trail

The Riesling Trail follows the path of the former railway. This close to 30-kilometer walking and biking trail spans from Auburn in the South and Clare in the North. The trail starts at former Auburn Railway Station, now home to The Station Cafe and Mount Horrocks Wines.

Walking and biking through the Riesling Trail is the best way to visit the significant landmarks of Clare Valley. Along this trail are many vineyards, bush land, mixed farms, picnic spots, winery cellar doors, restaurants, art houses and churches.

The compacted surface of the Riesling Trail makes it convenient for people to walk and bike by.

John Horrocks Loop

This 9-kilometer trail heads west, past St. Mark's Church and to the village of Penwortham and Skillogalee Creek. Along this trail are great cellar doors and quality food shops.

Father Rogalksi Loop

This 10-kilometer trail starts north of Penwortham and leads to Polish Hill Valley. This trail is a steep one as this crosses a ridge. The breathtaking views of the vineyards and a visit to Polish Church Museum make this trail worth the effort.

Spring Gully Loop

This 16-kilometer trail starts at the Wendouree Road intersection, past the caravan park, Clare Valley Visitor Information Center, Skilly Hills, Spring Gully Conservation Park, more cellar doors and to the College Road intersection.

Rattler Rail Trail

This 19-kilometer trail stretches from Riverton to Auburn. It is advisable to travel to this trail via a mountain bike due to the trail's coarse gravel surface. This trail has panoramic views of the vineyards, bush land and dairy farms.
